Brighton have officially announced the signing of young Swedish midfielder Yasin Ayari from Allsvenskan outfit AIK. The teenager has moved to the Seagulls for a fee of four million euros and has put pen to paper a four-and-a-half-year contract that will keep him at the Amex Stadium till the summer of 2027.
Ayari has represented Sweden at various youth levels and was capped by the senior team last year. His transfer potentially paves the way for Moises Caicedo to leave the South Coast, with the Ecuadorean star heavily linked with a switch to Premier League rivals Arsenal.
The Seagulls’ excellent record of identifying and developing young talent bodes well for young Ayari’s career, although Brighton director David Weir did mention in their statement that the 19-year-old would need time to adjust to the Premier League.
The Seagulls started the 22/23 Premier League season well under Graham Potter and despite losing their manager to Chelsea midway through the campaign, are currently 6th in the table. They also knocked holders Liverpool out of the FA Cup over the weekend thanks to a fine stoppage time goal from Japanese star Kaoru Mitoma and will host Bournemouth this weekend.
