According to reports, Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak is open to the idea of a potential switch to Old Trafford this summer. United have not been able to persuade David de Gea to pen an extension, and the Spanish stopper’s current deal at the Theatre of Dreams ends next summer.
If De Gea doesn’t agree to a new deal and heads off to Paris Saint-Germain, as is being rumoured in some circles, United’s next keeper could again come from Atleti. Slovenian Oblak is a childhood fan of the Red Devils, and is open to the idea of moving to the Premier League. The 26 year-old is contracted to Atleti till the summer of 2023.
Atletico are guaranteed Champions League football in 2019/20 while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s United, who finished sixth in the Premier League, will have to make do with Europa League footy. However that doesn’t appear to be a stumbling block for Oblak, who remains interested if the DDG situation doesn’t work out.
De Gea suffered a dip in form towards the end of last season and has also lost his starting spot in the Spanish national team to Kepa. Real Madrid originally wanted to sign De Gea from United, but that transfer didn’t work out, and they eventually ended up moving for Thibault Courtois, with Kepa joining Chelsea to replace the Belgian.
