La Liga side Real Sociedad have announced Philippe Montanier as their new coach after reaching an agreement with the latter’s current club Valenciennes. Los Txuri Urdin have agreed to pay Valenciennes €500,000 and buy out the last year of his contract.
46 year old Montanier has led Valenciennes to two safe midtable finishes in his time in charge of the club. They finished 10th in the 2009/10 season and 12th in the recently concluded 2010/2011 season.
Sociedad have fallen from grace in Spanish football, going from a club that used to compete in the Champions League to one that just about avoided relegation last season. They were in fact relegated during the 2006/07 season and returned to the top tier of Spanish football only two seasons ago.
Montanier replaces Martin Lasarte as Sociedad coach.
