Liverpool are set to sign young Sevilla striker Luis Alberto for a fee in the region of £6.8million. The 20-year-old Spaniard is due on Merseyside for a medical ahead of completing the transfer. The Spain under-21 international is believed to be ready to sign a four-year contract with Liverpool.
Alberto spent last season on-loan in the second tier of Spanish football, where he scored 11 goals for Barcelona B. The Catalan giants had the right to sign the youngsters on a permanent deal, but decided not to pursue their interest in the striker.
Compatriot Iago Aspas is set to complete his £7.6million transfer from Celta Vigo next week, after the move was held up by red tape. A deal has been in place for more than a week now. However, the players’ paperwork has stopped the deal from being completed.
One player that will not be heading to Anfield this summer is Reading centre-back Alex Pearce. The 24-year-old was out-of-contract this summer, but has now decided to sign a two-year extension to his deal, despite reported interest from the Reds and fellow Premier League club Newcastle.
