With Philip Lahm signing a new contract which would see him stay at Bayern Munich till 2016, all the attention is now on the contract situation of Bastian Schweinsteiger. The German midfielder has two years left on his current contract with Bayern but has admitted on more than one occasion that he would like to play either in England or Spain.
Reports in Spain suggest that Real Madrid are readying a bid to bring the German star to the Santiago Bernabeu. Former German captain Michael Ballack, who after playing for Chelsea has now returned to his homeland for a second stint with Bayer Leverkusen added that Manchester United would be an ideal place for Bastian to showcase his skills on the world stage.
But the 26-year old Schweinsteiger, who has been with Bayern since 2002 has insisted that he would like some time to come to a decision with regards to his future and that Philip Lahm’s decision to sign a new deal would not influence his decision. Bastian, as he is known, has played with great distinction for Bayern making 228 appearances and scoring 24 goals. He has also been a permanent fixture in the German national team having been capped 72 times for his country and scoring 19 goals.
