Tottenham Hotspur have officially announced that they have agreed a deal with Ajax Amsterdam for the services of Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen. Vertonghen was widely rumoured to join the Lilywhites before the start of Euro 2012 but the transfer stalled because of a dispute with the Dutch club over his cut in the transfer fee.
The transfer is subject to Vertonghen passing a medical and should he pass it, he will become new Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas’ second signing of the summer after Gylfi Sigurdsson. The transfer fee Spurs will pay for the Belgian centre half was not announced but sources have it to be somewhere around the £9m mark.
