Tottenham Hotspur have moved to complete the signing of veteran goalkeeper Joe Hart on a free transfer. The England international has put pen to a paper a two-year deal that will keep him tied to the club till the summer of 2022.
Hart was a free agent after being released by Burnley at the end of the 2019/20 season. His stint at Turf Moor wasn’t exactly a success- he lost his starting spot to Tom Heaton midway through the 18/19 season and spent most of the 19/20 campaign on the bench behind Nick Pope.
At Spurs, Hart, who will add to the club’s home-grown quota, will be competing with Paulo Gazzaniga and Hugo Lloris for the right to be Jose Mourinho’s No.1 under the sticks. He becomes Tottenham’s second signing of the summer after midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Spurs are the eighth English club that Hart will be representing- apart from the North London outfit and Burnley, he has also plied his trade for the likes of Shrewsbury, Man City, Tranmere, Blackpool, Birmingham and West Ham and had a loan stint in Serie A with Torino.
Hart has been capped 75 times by England, but his last appearance for the Three Lions came three years ago.
