Tottenham Hotspur have made their third signing of the summer transfer window in the form of Wolves right back Matt Doherty, with the Irish defender moving from Molineux for a reported £15m fee. The 28-year-old joins Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Joe Hart in the list of new arrivals at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium ahead of the 20/21 campaign.
Doherty has put pen to paper a four-year deal, tying him to the club till the end of the 2023/24 season. He has been at Wolves for a decade, having originally joined the Midlands outfit from Bohemians back in 2010, and has also had loan stints at Hibs and Bury.
The right-back’s transfer is also a welcome boost for Bohs because of a 10% sell-on clause they had put into the original deal. The Irish club will receive around £1.5m- a significant sum for them in the current economic climate, with their Chief Operating Officer Daniel Lambert saying that the deal “was seismic”.
Doherty played 50 games for Wolves across all competitions last season and has been a regular at Molineux under Nuno Espirito Santo. He made over 300 appearances for them in his decade long stay at the Midlands outfit.
