Spurs to push for Eriksen move

It was only last season when incoming manager Jose Mourinho did everything possible to oust former midfielder Christian Eriksen, after he refused to sign a contract extension. However after securing his £16.9 million move to Inter Milan, Eriksen has failed to establish a first team role and has been used only 39 times so far.

Now the move seems to be on the table again, as his former club is enquiring about a possible loan deal for the 28-year old. Antonio Conte has limited Eriksen to just 13 appearances this season, in which he failed to score or register an assist. In Inter’s (un) expected revival this season, the midfield trio of Barella, Brozović and Vidal has been preferred, with Eriksen serving as a squad player.

Christan Eriksen was one of the most influential midfielders in recent Spurs history, scoring 69 goals in 309 apperances. However, with the arrival of Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho and the contract dispute with Tottenham director Daniel Levy, his influence significantly faded and he was limited to 20 outings, registering two goals prior to his January departure. That is why it became some of a surprise that Spurs were interested in signing their former midfielder.

In Tottenham’s surge at the top the creative forces in the midfield certainly played a huge role, with Ndombele, Lo Celso and Hojbjerg forming a functional partnership. The arrival from a player of Eriksen’s caliber would certainly boost their chances of a top four finish, possibly even the title. The varsatilty of playing as number 6, 8 or even a number ten would certainly benefit him. It might be problematic that his longtime friend and former partner in midfield Delle Alli is on the verge of leaving the club and might influence the harmony of the transfer.

There is less than two weeks before the transfer deadline and we will wait and see what will happen in the next few days.
