League One outfit Accrington Stanley have officially completed the signing of Middlesbrough striker Luke Armstrong on loan till the end of the current 18/19 season. The 22 year old, son of former Boro star Alun Armstrong, was on loan at Gateshead during the first half of the season and impressed the Boro management to earn a new contract, and has now been sent to Stanley to further his development.
Stanley boss John Coleman revealed that he was pleased with the acquisition of the striker, who scored 10 goals in 17 league appearances for Gateshead, saying that there were other clubs interested in securing the latter’s services as well.
Stanley are currently 13th in the League One table, having earned promotion from the fourth tier at the end of the 17/18 season. They started well, but hit a bit of a block midway through the season, and will be in action against struggling Bristol Rovers, whom they beat 2-1 back in August, this weekend.
Boro remain very much in the race for promotion to the Premier League- they’re currently fifth in the Championship with 43 points. Their next game is at St.Andrews, where they will square off against Birmingham City.
