Cardiff and Stoke have swapped strikers in a move which sees Peter Odemwingie leave the Welsh club to be replaced by Potters’ striker Kenwyne Jones.
Neither forward has been particularly impressive in recent seasons; Odemwingie has managed 2 goals in 17 appearances for Cardiff in his short time there, whilst Jones averages just over a goal every five games in a Stoke career made up of over 100 appearances.
Whilst Jones has never really fired, Odemwingie played a part in turning his previous club, mid-table West Brom, from a ‘yo-yo’ club to one of the Premier League’s more stable sides. However, he betrayed the Baggies when trying to force through a move to QPR, embarrassingly turning up in West London even though a move.was never fully agreed.
Despite this, the Nigerian has proven he can score goals in the top flight and provides Mark Hughes’ side with another attacking option. Cardiff, comparably, need such a forward, making the purchase of Jones and confusing and somewhat unnecessary one.
