Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is close to completing the signing of highly rated Belgian goalkeeper Simon Mignolet for a fee of about £2 million. The 21 year old custodian has been earning rave reviews playing for Sint Truidense in the Jupiler League. Even at the very young age of 21, Mignolet has 71 caps for Sint Truidense in the Belgian League and has represented his country at U21 level. He was shown around the Stadium of Light and the club’s training ground this weekend sparking rumours that the deal is all but done. The signing puts immense pressure on Scott Gordon who has not lived upto his £9 million price tag.
The Black Cats are also coveting Chile striker Humberto Suazo in what could be a very difficult transfer. His current club Monterrey loaned him out to Real Zaragoza last season where he was a success. After buying him for £2.5 million in 2007, Monterrey are expecting Sunderland to fork out £14 million for his services. The Black Cats are exploring the option of a loan deal.
Elsewhere, Sunderland have bid £2 million for Estudiantes right back Marcos Angeleri and are interested in striker Mauro Boselli.
