Play-off hopefuls Swansea have completed the signing of youngster Conor Gallagher on loan from Chelsea till the end of the season. The 19-year-old follows in the footsteps of fellow academy starlet Marc Guehi, who also moved from Stamford Bridge to the Liberty Stadium on an eighteen-month deal last week.
Apart from Guehi, the move also reunites Gallagher with Rhian Brewster, who, like the aforementioned duo, was part of the England squad that won the U-17 World Cup in India three years ago.
Gallagher had originally joined Charlton on a season long loan in the summer but Chelsea chose to recall him and send him to South Wales instead. He was an integral part of Lee Bowyer’s side during his stint at The Valley, making 26 appearances for the Addicks, and scoring six goals for them across all competitions.
Swansea are currently managed by Steve Cooper, who coached the Young Lions in that victorious U-17 World Cup campaign. They are currently 7th in the Championship table, eleven points behind leaders West Brom but only outside the playoff spots on goal difference.
Gallagher could make his Swans bow as early as this weekend, when they host struggling Wigan Athletic at home on Saturday afternoon.
