Spanish international midfielder Thiago Alcantara looks set to join Manchester United from Barcelona for £17million, according to the Guardian. The youngster is highly-rated, but has not been able to cement a place in the Barca first team, with the likes of Xavi, Cesc Fabregas and Andres Iniesta higher in the pecking order at the Nou Camp.
Manchester United boss David Moyes had made signing a central midfielder his biggest priority this summer. United had also been linked with Holland international midfielder Kevin Strootman, but the midfield’s club PSV Eindhoven are not keen on selling their star player.
It now looks like Thiago will be lining up alongside England striker Wayne Rooney next season, after Moyes revealed in his first press conference as United boss that the former-Everton star will staying at Old Trafford.
Rooney had previously been linked with big money moves to Barcelona, Chelsea, and Manchester City, among others. The striker put in a transfer request towards the end of last season and he was expected to leave this summer.
However, it now looks likely that Rooney will not get a move this summer.
