On an extremely busy transfer deadline day, the three big deals of the day- Fernando Torres, David Luiz and Andy Carroll all went through, for a combined fee of £100m+.
Carroll became Liverpool’s club record signing as the Reds, after having an initial £30m bid rejected, signed him for a reported £35m+ add ons. Newcastle were reluctant to sell him, but Carroll also handed in a transfer request to ensure that the transfer went through.
Carroll will wear the No.9 shirt left vacant by the departure of Fernando Torres to Chelsea. Torres’ deal is a record transfer fee for a player between British clubs, with Chelsea reportedly paying £50m for him.
Chelsea were also involved in the other big name transfer of the day, signing David Luiz from Benfica in a £21m part exchange deal ( player swapped- Nemanja Matic)
