Tottenham were busy on the transfer deadline day. Spurs brought in USA international attacking midfielder Clint Dempsey from Fulham for £6million. Tottenham also brought in France international keeper Hugo Lloris from Lyon for a fee in the region of £12million.
Tottenham sold Holland international Rafael Van Der Vaart to German Bundesliga club Hamburg. Van Der Vaart cost the German club £10million. Tottenham also allowed full-back Danny Rose to join Sunderland on a season-long loan deal.
Manchester City were also busy on deadline day. City completed the £16million signing of Benfica midfielder Javi Garcia. The Citizens also completed a deal to sign Inter and Brazil full-back Maicon for an undisclosed fee.
The English champions also brought in highly-rated young Fiorentina defender Matija Nastasic for £12million. Young City defender Stefan Savic has moved to Florence as part of the deal. Manchester City have also loaned out striker Roque Santa Cruz to La Liga Malaga for the rest of the season.
