Tottenham supremo Daniel Levy was in Madrid to discuss terms with Real Madrid over a combined 30 million pounds move for three Real Madrid players – Arjen Robben, Gabriel Heinze and Klass-Jan Huntelaar. Levy flew to Spain on Monday with agent Dennis Roach and finance director Matthew Collecott to meet Real president Florentino Perez. No deal was reached but talks went on smoothly.
After having completed the signing of Ronaldo and Kaka, Real have circulated a list of nine players who would be available to other clubs. All the three players mentioned above are on the list. Tottenham want to take the three players on loan for a season with an option to buy at the end of it, but Real are determined to sell the players immediately as they see no future at the club for them and are not willing to commit to Tottenham’s demands as they look out for an immediate transfer.
Tottenham had also tried a cheeky move for former United striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy, but were stunned by his wage demands. The wage demands of the trio would also be a stumbling block in the completion of the deal. Levy and Redknapp see Huntelaar as an ideal targetman to play alongside Defoe and Keane. But it is surprising that Real have decided to sell, after buying him only last winter.
