Tottenham Hotspur currently sit atop of the Premier League table, having conceded the fewest goals of any team in the division – just nine at the time of writing. Their defence may be the meanest in the competition, but ever-conservative manager Jose Mourinho is still looking for options to sure it up even further.
Spurs have long been linked with a move for Inter Milan centre-back Millan Skriniar. The Slovakian international is 25-years-old and is widely considered one of the best defenders in world football. He is said to be available for around £45 million.
Spurs have alternated their central defensive pairing many times already this season, with Toby Alderweireld, Davidson Sanchez, Joe Rodon, Eric Dier and Japhet Tanganga all selected at the back. Mourinho is no doubt looking to bring some consistency to his defensive line, and Skriniar would seem to be a sensible option to do exactly that.
Skriniar has been a permanent fixture at the heart of an impressive Inter Milan side over the past three seasons. He has appeared just five times in the 2020-21 campaign, but that dip in turnouts is due to a coronavirus diagnosis.
A world-class centre-back could prove a vital addition in Jose’s pursuit of the title. Skriniar fits the bill perfectly.
