AC Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu has officially left the Rossoneri to join cross town rivals Internazionale, the Nerazzurri have confirmed. Calhanoglu has joined on a three-year deal that will keep him at the San Siro till the summer of 2024 and will reportedly earn around 5 million euros a year with the reigning Italian champions.
While there are plenty of well-known players who have plied their trade for both Milan clubs- the likes of Ibrahimovic, Hernan Crespo, Ronaldo and Clarence Seedorf all come to mind, Calhanoglu is the first player to move from Milan to Inter since Antonio Cassano back in 2012.
Calhanoglu started his career in Germany with Karlsruher and also played for Hamburg and Bayer Leverkusen before moving to Serie A with Milan for a 20-million-euro fee back in 2017. He made over 170 appearances across all competitions in his four-year stint with the Rossoneri.
Inter, Italian champions last season under Antonio Conte, have a new gaffer in town this year in the form of Simone Inzaghi, and the ex-Lazio boss needed to add some reinforcements in midfield, especially with Christian Eriksen unlikely to play again.
Calhanoglu was part of Turkey’s Euro 2020 squad, but they were disappointing in the competition, finishing last in a group that also contained Italy, Switzerland and Wales.
