Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian has said that while he is “proud to be at Manchester United”, he misses life in his native Italy.
The 29 year old Darmian, signed from Torino by Louis van Gaal back in 2015, has been restricted to a handful of appearances under Jose Mourinho. United were prepared to let him go in the summer-Mourinho admitted as much during their pre-season tour of America, but none of the offers received matched their valuation of him.
Darmian also his eyes set on a potential Azzurri recall, adding that he hoped Roberto Mancini would call him up to the national team in the future.
The likes of Juventus, Roma and Napoli have all been linked with a move to Darmian, who is likely to exit Old Trafford in January should the right offer come in.
Darmian has played only three times for United this season- all at home in the league. Two of these three appearances- against Crystal Palace and Arsenal, ended in draws while one, against Leicester, ended in a narrow 2-1 win for United.
The right back is out of contract at the end of next summer, but his current deal at United has a built-in option of a year’s extension.
