It is unsurprising given Man United’s lack of creativity and his own exceptional performances for Southampton this season, England international Adam Lallana has been linked with a January move to the champions.
Following his first international caps in England’s recent ties against Chile and Germany, it has been an exceptional season for the Saints’ captain, who has racked up nearly 250 appearances for the club, who themselves sit 9th in the Premier League as it enters the second half of the season
Unless Southampton fulfil the excellent potential they have shown in parts this season and move back towards the European qualification places towards the top of the Premier League, holding onto the talismanic midfielder in the long term will prove particularly difficult.
However, an imminent move to Old Trafford is surely too soon for a player who still has a lot to prove. Furthermore, whether Lallana currently has the quality to improve the United midfield – which is in serious need of an upgrade – is a fairly debatable claim.
In staying with Southampton for the moment, Lallana would have the opportunity to further prove himself, possibly attracting other potential suitors in the process.
