Manchester United have officially completed the signing of Martin Dubravka on loan from Newcastle United till the end of the season. The Red Devils will pay the Magpies a fee of £2m. There is also an obligation to buy for £6m if the Slovak international makes a fixed number of appearances for Erik Ten Hag’s men. However, the loan also includes an option for Newcastle to recall him in case of injuries to their own keepers.
Dubravka’s move is likely to make him the No.2 at Old Trafford – he is expected to leapfrog veteran Tom Heaton in the pecking order. United currently have David de Gea as their first-choice keeper and have sent Dean Henderson out on loan to Nottingham Forest.
The Red Devils tried to sign Kevin Trapp earlier in the transfer window, but the German international opted to stay at Eintracht Frankfurt, which forced them to look at alternate options. Dubravka has been at Newcastle since the 2017/18 season and has made over a hundred appearances for the Magpies. He has also been capped 30 times by Slovakia and was part of their Euro 2020 squad.
Earlier on transfer deadline day, United also officially announced the signing of Brazilian winger Antony from Ajax.
