Manchester United have made their first signing of the summer bringing in 20-year-old Uruguayan full-back Guillermo Varela from Atletico Penarol in his homeland. The youngster has cost the Red Devils in the region of £2.5million.
Varela spent the final few weeks of last season training with United with a view to securing a move to Old Trafford. Although he will be considered new boss Davis Moyes’ first signing, the deal was already in place prior to the Scot’s arrival in Manchester.
The highly-rated young full-back is currently away on international duty with his country’s under-20’s, as he takes part in the FIFA U20 World Championship in Turkey.
Another part of the pitch that David Moyes is reportedly looking to strengthen is his midfield. Newcastle central midfielder Yohan Cabaye has revealed that he would be very interested in a move to Old Trafford if the opportunity arose.
Cabaye is regarded as one of Newcastle’s best asset and was one of the Magpies better players last season in a disappointing season. Cabaye is also attracting the interest of France’s two big financial powerhouses Monaco and PSG. However, Cabaye stated he would prefer to stay in the Premier League.
