Real Madrid’s Dutch striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy is set to sign for Bundesliga side Hamburg. The 33 year-old has been chased by a number of big clubs including Premier League sides during the January transfer window. Liverpool, Tottenham and West Ham were all linked with moves for the former United star, but its the German side who have captured his signature.
He underwent a medical in Germany on Saturday and passed despite some lingering doubts over recent problems with injuries. Despite spending the majority of this season in the treatment room he is now fully-fit and looking for regular first team football.
Van Nistelrooy is believed to have signed a one and a half year contract in Hamburg. His new side are currently well placed in the Bundesliga table in fifth place challenging for the Champions League football next season.
The Dutch striker told the clubs official website: “I am very happy that it worked out and look forward to Monday when I will arrive in Hamburg,”
“Hamburg is a fantastic club with a strong team and great ambitions. I also have great ambitions.”
He continued: “And then I obviously hope that the national team coach gives me a call and that I can go to the World Cup.”
