Vanden Borre moves to Pompey on loan

Portsmouth FC have completed the signing of versatile defender Anthony Vanden Borre on a season long loan from Italian side Genoa. Vanden Borre, 21, can play both in defence and midfield, and made his debut for Belgium at the age of 16.

The Congo born Vanden Borre started his career with Belgian giants Anderlecht, and moved to Italy in 2007 when Fiorentina signed him. However the Viola let go of him six months later to Genoa in a deal that brought Papa Waigo to Stadio Artemio Franchi.

In June 2008, Genoa officially bought his full rights from Fiorentina. He made 25 appearances for the Rossoblu in 2008 and 2009.

Pompey have also secured the right to buy Vanden Borre. If he receives international clearance, Vanden Borre could make his debut for the South Coast club against Fulham in the 2009-10 Premier League opener.
