In demand defender Jan Vertonghen has revealed that he is close to completing a switch to Tottenham Hotspur. Vertonghen has been long linked with a switch to the Lilywhites’ great London rivals Arsenal, a move that would have reunited him with Thomas Vermaelen, but the Belgian international revealed in a press conference prior to the Red Devils’ clash against England that he was very close to joining Spurs.
Vertonghen added that Spurs made him feel wanted and he had made the decision after seeing their plans for the future. He also brushed aside concerns of not being to play in the Champions League, saying that the club was more important than a single season.
