Newly promoted Premier League side Birmingham City have announced the signing of former Liverpool and Portsmouth defender Gregory Vignal on a one year deal. The 28 year old is thus reunited with manager Alex McLeish, under whom he played at Rangers in 2004.
Vignal impressed McLeish after a “strong” performance in a friendly against Sporting Gijon. He had earlier tried his luck with Queens Park Rangers, but the Hoops did not offer him a contract.
Vignal is expected to compete with the injured David Murphy for the left back spot at St.Andrews.
Vignal has now played for eleven clubs in his decade long career ( including Birmingham). Montpellier, Liverpool, Bastia, Rennes, Espanyol, Rangers, Portsmouth, Lens, Kaiserslautern and Southampton were the other ten.
