Aston Villa are in talks with Blackburn to sign full-back Stephen Warnock. The former Liverpool player was omitted from the Blackburn squad for their 2-1 defeat by Sunderland at the weekend, Sam Allardyce revealing the reason was he didn’t feel he was in the right frame of mind, due to speculation about his future and he was also a unused subsititute in Blackburn’s Carling Cup victory on Tuesday night.
Rovers have admitted that he could leave for Villa, but only at the right price. Villa manager Martin O’Neill is short of defensive cover and is trying desperately to sign reinforcements and it looks like the Villa boss could have to pay up to £8million to land his man
Rovers manager Sam Allardyce had this to say: “I think it is obvious he would like to move to a club of that size (Villa) without me trying to cover it up,”
“The problem is we want the value we think Stephen is worth and that is the most important thing from my and this club’s point of view.”
The Blackburn boss has agreed a £1.5million fee for Tottenham full-back Pascal Chimbonda, who is believed to be unhappy at White Hart Lane. The Frenchman arrived back at Spurs in January after a short spell at Sunderland.
