Aston Villa have announced the signing of young French midfielder Boubacar Kamara on a free transfer. The 22-year-old will link up with the Villans following the expiry of his current contract with Marseille this summer, and has put pen to paper a five year deal.
Kamara was heavily linked with a switch to Atletico Madrid but has chosen to further his career in the Premier League instead. Both Atleti and Marseille will be featuring in the Champions League next season, but Kamara has chosen to forego that option to play under Steven Gerrard.
The youngster is Villa’s second signing of the summer following the announcement of Philippe Coutinho’s loan deal being made a permanent one. Villa finished fourteenth in the just concluded 2021/22 Premier League season, and very nearly upset defending champions Man City on the final day, leading 2-0 in the second half before eventually slumping to a 3-2 defeat.
The 22-year-old is primarily a defensive midfielder, but can also fill in at centre-back if required.
Kamara is a product of the Marseille academy and has made 170 appearances across all competitions for the Ligue 1 outfit. His form for OM also earned him a recent callup to the Frenchsenior national side- he has represented Les Bleus at every age group level from U17 to U21.
