Walsall sign young keeper

League One Walsall have sign Hull City keeper Matt Oxley on a month’s loan deal. Walsall boss Chris Hutchings is in need of goalkeeping reinforcements after first choice keeper Rene Gilmartin picked up a hamstring injury which is expected to keep him out for at least a month.

The young keeper joined the Tigers from Rotherham last season for £150,000. Hull will see a loan move as useful for the 19 year-old to gain first team experience. Hes way down the pecking order at the KC Stadium, so a loan move could prove beneficial. The youngster however is likely to start his Saddlers career on the substitute bench.

The Saddlers boss Hutchings told the clubs official website: “He is a young, emerging lad of real quality and potential,”

“We have worked hard to be able to bring him in and he will gain plenty of valuable experience during his time here. He will be travelling and training with us today and be on the bench for Saturday’s game at Colchester United.

“It’s unfortunate for Rene but these things happen in football. He’s been playing well and growing in confidence and I have been pleased with the progress he has made this season.”
