Portsmouth have completed the free transfer of former Sheffield United striker Danny Webber. The former Manchester United ace was training with the Premier League champions after being released by the Blades. He appeared 107 times for the Yorkshire club scoring 20 goals. The 27 year-old has signed a two-year contract at Fratton Park after impressing on trial at the club. The striker has also played for Watford and Crystal Palace since starting his career at Manchester United. He
He told the Portsmouth official website: “I’ve always enjoyed playing at Fratton Park. I like the old grounds where the fans are close to the pitch. I’m delighted to have the chance to get back to the Premier League at a hotbed of football”
His new boss Paul Hart revealed: ” When I found out Danny was available I asked him to come down and train with us-and I was delighted with what I saw.
“He plays off the shoulders of defenders and gives us another attacking option.
“I wanted to sign him when I was at Nottingham Forest but he went to Watford. Hes another one who’s hungry with something to prove”
The striker will fill the void left by striker David Nugent who joined Burnley on-loan on transfer deadline day.
