After securing promotion to the Premier League, West Brom are looking to add reinforcements to their squad with the intent that their tenure in the English top flight lasts much longer than the previous time. The Baggies have completed the signing of former Blackburn midfielder Steven Reid on a Bosman transfer. The Republic of Ireland international has signed a two year contract with the Hawthorns club. He will join the club on July 1 subject to passing a medical test.
Reid had spent the latter part of the 2009-10 season on loan at WBA where he played 10 times scoring once. Coach Roberto di Matteo was very impressed by Reid’s influence both on and off the field and decided to make a permanent move. He provides another option to the Albion midfield with Robert Koren likely to leave the club for greener pastures.
WBA are also tracking Atletico Madrid defender Pablo Ibanez. Accroding to reports, Ibanez arrived at the Hawthorns yesterday for a medical. The Spaniard who has 23 international caps spent greater part of last season warming the bench of the Europa League winners and West Brom could do with his versatility and experience.
On the other hand, West Brom may be forced to part ways with Youssuf Mulumbu. The Congo international made 44 appearances for the Baggies last season but has just one year left on his current contract and is considering his options. Newcastle are leading the chase for the 23-year old African.
