Premier League strugglers West Ham have completed the signing of Blackburn striker Benni McCarthy for an undisclosed fee. The South African star is believed to have fell out with Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce in his last few months at the club but he has claimed there was no problem with the former Bolton boss. He has stated numerous times that he wanted to move and has signed a two and a half year contract with the Hammers.
The 32 year-old told Sky Sports news: “Now I can just get back to playing and getting a place in the team. I am also looking forward to getting to know my new team-mates and help get the club out of a tough situation.”
McCarthy has refused to criticise former boss Sam Allardyce but was clearly not happy at making limited appearances this season for Rovers. He continued: “I have no complaints about Blackburn. They did not play the kind of football that I wanted to play and so I couldn’t play there,”
“I never had a disagreement with the manager. I have always been respectful and he has always been up front with me.
McCarthy scored 52 goals in all competitions at Rovers and was a crowd favourite at Ewood Park. He is also South Africa’s top goal scorer with 32 goals but needs regular football to have a chance of playing at the World Cup in his home country this summer.
