West Ham United have completed the signing of Kevin Nolan from Newcastle United for a reported £4m fee. Nolan’s transfer has shocked several Newcastle fans, especially as the Hammers will be playing in the Championship next season and not the Premier League.
Nolan has signed a five year contract with the Hammers and the transfer reunites him with Sam Allardyce, the manager who helped him develop at Bolton Wanderers. Nolan will also take over the captain’s armband at Upton Park from the out of contract Matty Upson.
Newcastle skipper Nolan finished as the top scorer at St.James Park last season with 12 goals and also scored a hat trick over local rivals Sunderland. The sale of Nolan to West Ham has upset several other Magpies players, notably Joey Barton, who is also preparing to exit the North East this summer.
