Premier League newcomers West Ham United have signed French international midfielder Alou Diarra for an undisclosed fee from French side Marseille. The 31 year-old has signed a three-year contract at the Boleyn Ground.
Diarra was part of the France squad that took part in Euro 2012 and started all the group games at the tournament, including the opening game against England. Diarra never really settled at Marseille after previously enjoying spells at other French sides Lyon and Bordeaux.
This will not be Diarra’s first furore into English football. Earlier in his career he spent three years on the books of Premier League Liverpool. However, most of that time he was loaned out and he failed to make a single appearance for the Reds. He will be hoping to prove his critics wrong second time
