Which Premier League side made the best signings over the summer?

Many a new face was acquired by Premier League this past summer with many clubs breaking their transfer records, aided by the substantial television rights that has pumped money into England’s top flight.

Six games into the season and Liverpool and Manchester City are looking like the strongest contenders for the title, but Chelsea are right on their tail. Newcomers Wolves currently sit in the top half, Fulham are scrapping it out towards the bottom and Cardiff City are yet to win a game.

With that in mind, here are four new players that have really stood out so far:

Aleksandar Mitrovic (Fulham)

Fulham made the signing of Aleksandar Mitrovic permanent over the summer after the Serbian striker had spent the second half of the last campaign on loan in West London. The former-Newcastle United man has produced five goals in his first six Premier League appearances, having only scored 10 in 40 in the top flight for the Magpies.

Given that the Cottagers have only won one of their first six matches since returning to the top flight, the early signs are that Mitrovic’s goals may be the difference between Fulham staying up or going down this season.

Joao Moutinho (Wolves)

Wolves’ Portuguese connections worked wonders last season as they won the Championship under Nuno with the likes of Ruben Neves, Diogo Jota and Helder Costa.

The West Midlands club added to their books over the summer, which included Portuguese international goalkeeper Rui Patrício being signed as their first choice. However, the one new signing that has stood out so far for Wolves has been Euro 2016 winner Joao Moutinho.

Moutinho has helped run the Wolves’ midfield alongside Ruben Neves, which includes an assist in the 1-1 draw against Manchester City and scoring his first goal in their 1-1 draw against Manchester United. Anyone with a bet on the Premier League that those two matches would end in a draw would have made a tidy profit.

James Maddison (Leicester City)

Leicester City did a bit of the rebuilding of their defence over the summer by signing Jonny Evans, Ricardo Pereira and Caglar Soyuncu among a couple of others. However, the most notable acquisition so far has been attacking midfielder James Maddison.

The 21-year-old arrived off an excellent season in the Championship with Norwich City last campaign, earning him a £24 million transfer fee. Early signs are that Maddison is going to be a bargain for the Foxes, having scored three goals and assisted another in his first six matches.

Jorginho (Chelsea)

Chelsea took their time in dismissing Antonio Conte over the summer after a fifth place finish and missing out on Champions League football this campaign. As soon as one Italian was shown on the door, another entered. The appointment of Maurizio Sarri was immediately followed by the signing of Jorginho, both from Napoli.

The midfielder has looked impressive in maintaining possession for his side, and has completed the most passes in the Premier League through six matches.
