Wigan Athletic have completed the signing of Arouna Kone from Levante for a fee in the region of £2.8million. The Ivory Coast international has signed a three-year deal at the DW Stadium and will be hoping to make his debut this weekend against Chelsea.
The 28 year-old striker played a crucial role in Levante being the surprise package in La Liga last season, as he got on the score sheet 17 times. Kone was a highly-rated youngster at Roda and PSV Eindhoven in the Eredivisie and earned himself a move to La Liga Sevilla.
The move didn’t work out and he found himself loaned out to German club Hannover and more recently Levante. Levante only completed his permanent signing earlier this summer, for a reported fee of £1.8million.
Kone could be seen as a potential replacement for wantaway Latics front man Victor Moses. The highly-rated youngster is being tracked by European champions Chelsea, who have already had two bids turned down for the 21 year-old.
They are now expecting to return with a bid in the region of £10million, which they believe will be enough to sign the enigmatic attacker.
