Highly rated Wigan youngster Callum Lang will be plying his trade in Scotland next season after agreeing to join Premiership outfit Motherwell on a season long loan. This is the fourth loan stint for Lang, a Liverpool youth product- he has previously had spells at Morecambe, Shrewsbury and Oldham.
Well boss Stephen Robinson was delighted with the signing, saying that the club had tried to sign Lang before, albeit unsuccessfully, and were pleased to have landed him on this occasion.
The striker, who can play anywhere across the front three, had a word with Wigan team mate Cedric Kipre, a former Motherwell player himself, before agreeing to join the Steelmen.
Wigan were relegated from the Championship to League One at the end of the 2019/20 season. Motherwell, on the other hand, finished third in the curtailed Scottish Premiership season behind Celtic and Rangers, thus giving them a spot in the qualifying rounds of the Europa League next season. The added lure of playing in Europe was reportedly a key factor in Lang’s decision to move to Fir Park.
Robinson has been busy in the summer window- Lang is his seventh signing after Ricki Lamie, Nathan McGinley, Mark O’Hara, Jake Hastie, Jordan White and Scott Fox.
