Premier League side Wolves are in talks to sign Stoke City striker James Beattie for a fee reported to be £3million. The 31 year-old is set to move after falling out with Stoke boss Tony Pulis. The disagreement was believed to be about the arrangements for Christmas club party.
Beattie’s form last season was superb after he arrived from Sheffield United and his form helped Stoke achieve a comfortable midtable finish, in their first season back in the top flight. However this season he has struggled to repeat that form. His return of two goals in 18 Premier League games is deemed not good enough by his boss.
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy is in search of more firepower and is hoping that he can persuade former Everton ace Beattie to move to Molineux. McCarthy has also revealed that he is looking to strengthen his squad further before the transfer window shuts at the end of the month.
McCarthy told the clubs official website: “We’ve done all we can to try to get the players we want,”
“At the moment we can’t do it, but I haven’t given up on anybody at all. I’m sure there will be some business done between now and the end of the window.”
