Wolves sign Spanish forward

Wolverhampton Wanderers have officially completed the signing of Spanish forward Diego Costa on a free transfer. The veteran striker will be at Molineux till the end of the season, having put pen to paper on a short-term deal.

Costa is no stranger to the Premier League, having previously represented Chelsea between 2014 and 2017. He won two league titles and one League Cup during his stint with the Blues. After leaving Stamford Bridge, he moved back to former club Atletico Madrid and stayed with them till the 2020-21 season. He then joined Atletico Miniero in Brazil but became a free agent after terminating his contract with them in January earlier this year.

Wolves were on the lookout for a forward with Premier League experience after new signing Sasa Kalajdzic picked up an anterior cruciate ligament injury on debut. They are currently 14th in the table and have won only one of their opening six games of the new PL season- a 1-0 triumph over Southampton earlier this month. Their next game is against defending champions Manchester City.

The 33-year-old Costa has also represented Spain at international level and was part of La Furia Roja’s 2014 and 2018 World Cup squads.
