Fulham have inched closer to a deal to sign Shaun Wright-Phillips after Manchester City softened their stance on the England winger. City boss Roberto Mancini was adamant that he would let Wright-Phillips move only if a permanent deal was offered. But City seem to have agreed to a loan-deal with Fulham, wherein it would mandatory for Fulham to sign the player permanently at the end of the season if they avoid relegation. A fee around £4 million has been agreed for the transfer.
Mark Hughes is afraid to commit a large sum of money for Wright-Phillips while Fulham’s Premier League status hangs in the balance. A loan deal would see Wright-Phillips unite with Mark Hughes – the manager who signed him for Manchester City from Chelsea.
Hughes is also keen to re-sign Paul Konchesky from Liverpool. The England left-back has failed to settle at Anfield and could be a direct replacement for Mexican Carlos Salcido, who has looked far from convincing for the Cottagers.
