Russian Premier League outfit Anzhi Makhachkala have officially completed the signing of versatile winger Yuri Zhirkov from Chelsea. Zhirkov was introduced to Anzhi’s fans today before their home game against Tom Tomsk. Anzhi announced that Zhirkov had put pen to paper a four year contract.
The fee paid by Anzhi to Chelsea was not announced but reports put it to be somewhere in the £12-13m range. Zhirkov started his career with Spartak Tambov and joined Chelsea from CSKA Moscow in 2009. At the time of his signing, he was the most expensive Russian footballer ever. In two seasons at Stamford Bridge, he racked up a little less than 50 appearances.
He is expected to make his Anzhi debut in their midweek game against Spartak Moscow.
