According to the Spanish press, Zinedine Zidane will move for Ajax youngster Donny van de Beek should Paul Pogba not arrive at the Bernabeu in the summer. Pogba has been often linked with a switch away from Old Trafford and while Zidane regards the French medio as his first-choice midfielder signing, backup plans are being made in the Spanish capital if they don’t get the 26 year-old.
The 22-year-old Van de Beek has been hugely impressive for Ajax and scored the winner for the Amsterdam outfit as they beat Spurs in the first leg of their Champions League semifinal in London. With so much of the focus on Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong, Van de Beek’s performances have gone under the radar a bit, but he remains an integral part of Erik ten Hag’s team and their successful run in Europe this season.
De Jong has signed for Real’s arch rivals Barcelona, and Van de Beek, also a product of the Ajax academy, is being looked upon as a Plan B should Pogba’s transfer not materialize, due to say, a high transfer fee or wage demands.
Van de Beek’s Ajax will face Willem II in the KNVB Cup final this weekend followed by the second leg of their clash against Spurs.
